I plan to work at the law firm for three or four years then maybe establish my own office after that. A three or four years of experience with the law firm would already give me enough experience to have my own practice. The law office is a big one. It has 4 Senior Partners, 6 Associate Partners and 15 Associate Lawyers. On top of these lawyers, the firm also has 3 Secretaries and 5 paralegals. When I had the chance to talk to one of the paralegals, it was my first time to learn that there are already paralegal courses that are being offered in a number of schools. I really thought that anybody can be a paralegal. I thought that anyone who assists a lawyer, regardless of the level of education, can be called a paralegal. I was totally wrong in making that assumption. At least now I know what to require from my paralegal once I have my own firm.
